예, 한국만큼 미국에도 인터넷상 용어가 많이 쓰입니다. 이는 ‘internet slang, netspeak혹은 Nu English’이라고 부릅니다.
많이 쓰이는 예로,
단어를 한 글자로 축약 시키는 경우 - u (you), y (why), r (are), b (be), c (see), 2 (to/too), 4 (for), n (and), w/ (with)
단어를 소리로 축약하는 경우 – sup (what’s up), azn (asian), cuz (because), ppl (people), plz (please), thx (thanks), blog (web log), flame (inflammatory remark), gratz (contratulations), nvm (nevermind), dis (this), dat (that), wat (what)
문장 혹은 구절의 앞글자를 따는 경우 – brb (be right back), btw (by the way), lol (laugh out loud), imo (in my opinion), wth (what the hell), ttyl (talk to you later), omg (oh my god), fyi (for your information)
그리고 우리 나라의 뭥미처럼 의도적인 오타도 있습니다. Ex) owned -> pwned
물론 다 알 필요는 없지만 blog나 flame, 또는 fyi 같은 경우 일상 회화에도 등장하기 때문에 알아두면 유용합니다:)
